Twenty Years Ago -- March 28,1988

The following is a radio interview of my dad after our car went over a mountain pass in Colorado. The interview is from 1988.

God has done many things in my life since that day. I don't know if it was because of the accident or for other reasons that my parents started searching diligently for a church home. We started attending church faithfully. I was saved in church in 1990. I also surrendered my life to full- time Christian service in that same church when I was 11.

I am thankful to my parents for always seeking God's will when they were faced with decisions. It really set me on a pattern for the rest of my life.

I also realize that the only reason I am alive is because God has a plan for me . That is an awesome realization!

Proverbs 3:6 " In all thy ways acknowlege him, and he shall direct thy paths."

The True Meaning of Easter

On Saturday afternoon I asked Caleb, "Do you know why we have Easter?"
He replied with great excitement, "When Easter comes, I get candy in my basket , but not yet, I have to wait for Easter to come to my house!"
I said, "Yes, you will get candy, but we have Easter because Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus was God's Son and..."
Caleb interrupted me with even greater excitement,"Yes, and Jonah got eaten by a whale-- it was big,BIG! But I didn't get eaten by a whale! The whale went like this, CHOMP!!! (actions included) --- Can I have candy now?"

That was pretty much the end of our theological conversation.We'll tackle that subject again and eventually all of the Bible stories and Sunday school lessons will start to mean more to him than just an entertaining story; and, more importantly, holidays will mean more than just candy and presents.

I was thinking, though, it is easy, even as adults, to fall into that three-year-old mentality. We get all worked up about our new Easter clothes and all of our Easter plans that we barely stop to think about why we are celebrating this holiday.
Romans 5: 8 says, " But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us."
Romans 10:9 says,"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Praise the Lord for His provision for our salvation!

Creepy/Crawler

Sorry my last post was so short. I accidentally published before I was finished and didn't have time to fix it without deleting it. We are all healthy again -- and guess what? I heard birds chirping this morning! What a wonderful sound!

I have a couple of videos I want to share. The first is the creepy from the title. Caleb and I were in the basement sorting the laundry into "mountains " as Caleb calls them, when we came across this wonderful bug that Adam and Eve's curse brought onto our planet. It was a centipede. I have already shared my hatred for spiders - well, this can go right next to them. Caleb, however was intrigued. So for his sake, I screamed and began hyperventilating, er, I mean I calmly grabbed the camera to document the species in it's natural habitat- you know, the bottom of a laundry basket.




The centipede did end up finally escaping from it's prison and quickly scurried away to the darkest corner of the basement unscathed. Caleb told me it went home to it's mommy. I'll admit, I did look for a shoe or something heavy with which to smash the thing, but Caleb really had taken a liking to it, so I refrained myself. Besides, Caleb assured me,"Don't worry mommy, it will probably come back again." Yep, I'm looking forward to that!

Jocelyn is the crawler from the title. She is not actually crawling yet, but she is so close. I can't believe she is already so mobile. Caleb didn't crawl until he was about 8-9 months. Jocelyn is a little over five months and will be into everything before I know it. Here is a sample of what she has been doing.


We went for a walk yesterday. It was snowing a little bit, but the sun was shining and we really needed to get out of the house.

Caleb's quote for the day: "Socks don't burb cuz they don't have mouths."

Ok, so maybe it's not so picturesque, but it's the sights we have around here.

We have had a rough couple of weeks. Jocelyn's little cold turned into a full blown double ear infecton in two days. She was prety sick for a little while. Caleb started feeling better, but this past Wednesday his fever was back. He was miserable all day Thursday and Friday so we went to the doctor on Friday afternoon. They did a nose swab for the influenza and, wouldn't you know it, that's what Caleb has. I always think of the flu as affecting the stomach, but this one just affects everything else. He pretty much is achy from head to toe. He has a nasty cough and a recurring fever. Dan has the same thing and, of course, I am coming down with it too. The doctor that we saw on Friday said that Jocelyn's ear infection may have really been the flu too.

Today it snowed all day. We have already gotten over 120 inches of snow this season and we are getting another storm this week.

Since I don't really have much to say, I thought I would share some videos of my sweet kids.

Jocelyn started eating cereal on the 22nd. I thought it was so cute how ready she was. She just opened her mouth right up and took the food the very first time. Sorry it is so lopsided. I guess I lack coordination in my left hand when I am using my right hand to feed a baby. LOL

We made banana bread and Caleb was my "strong" helper.
